Let's go to the village court to get justice in a short time, at a low cost


* What is a village court? According to the Village Court Act, 2006, a village court is formed in the Union Parishad for the easy and speedy settlement of some criminal and civil disputes locally.

* The village court can settle criminal and civil disputes worth not more than 3,00,000/- (three lakh) taka.


* There is no provision for appointing a lawyer in the village court.


Why should we go to the village court?


* There is an opportunity to settle disputes and disputes in a short time, at a low cost and very easily in the village court.

* The applicant and the respondent get equal opportunities in the nomination of a representative.

* The parties can speak for themselves, no lawyer is needed.

* In the village court, disputes are settled on the basis of compromise, there is less possibility of one dispute leading to another.

* Efforts are made to restore the relationship between the parties.

* The poor and marginalized people, especially women, the disabled and small ethnic groups, get the opportunity to resolve disputes very easily.


What types of disputes can be resolved by the village court?


Criminal - theft, riot, fraud, quarrel, dispute or fight, misappropriation of valuable property, wrongful control and wrongful detention, intimidation or threats, speaking, making gestures or doing any other act with the intention of disrespecting or insulting the modesty of a woman.


Civil - regarding the recovery of money owed, regarding the recovery of possession of immovable property, regarding the recovery of movable property or its value, regarding the recovery of compensation for the forcible possession of or damage to any movable property, regarding compensation due to the trespass of cattle, regarding the recovery of wages and compensation payable to agricultural workers, recovery of arrears of maintenance by the wife, etc.
